Shelby & John
Autumn is the season of the soul (well my soul anyhow). Personally it is one of my favorite seasons to shoot weddings. John and Shelby’s wedding was a wonderful example of why! I had a blast shooting this wedding, especially within the beautiful landscapes of Kensington Metro Park (also one of my favorite hiking getaways). The park, along with the appreciatively cool temperatures in St. Joseph Shrine, as opposed to the stifling heat of summer, made this day so light and easy.
John and Shelby I had known for years prior after meeting them through mutual friends, as well as having shot their engagement photos in February earlier that year. Let me tell you, they are so wonderfully kind and easy going. I’ve been blessed with many delightful weddings/wedding parties and certainly they are up there with the sweetest of couples I’ve worked with. They made the shoot so easy and positive. Moreover, as a friend, they allowed me to partake in all their celebration and festivities with ease and not worry about working the whole time. I had the further blessing of being surrounded by many good friends throughout the day. It was loads of fun!
I normally only stick to doing strictly photography for weddings, even though I used to do many wedding videos. On this occasion they hired me (and I agreed) to shoot a wedding video for them along with the photos. This is no easy feat for one bloke. So I asked my good friend Julia to help me along the way, as she likes to shoot wedding videos and was also a friend of John and Shelby. So together, I shooting photos (and video when I could), and she taking videos, we made a wonderful documentation of their beautiful day. The editing process was a joy as the rich autumn colors and bright sunshine shone through the photographs, giving me wonderful inspiration for adjustments + making it all too easy. On glorious days like that one the photos need very little adjustment indeed.
